FSOSW CELEBRATES TWENTY-FIVE YEARS!

1983. Ronald Regan was President. Ghandi won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Motorola began testing on a new item called a cellular phone. Something else very exciting happened in 1983: The Florida Society of Oncology Social Workers was born.

To celebrate where we have been, where we are today and the future of oncology social work, the 2008 Conference Committee is planning an amazing annual conference at sea. We wanted to do something really special to honor and celebrate the 25th annual state conference of FSOSW. Please accept this invitation to you and your collegues to present and/or attend our next conference: Cruising through the Past, Present and Future of Oncology Social Work on the Carnival Destiny from October 16th to October 20th, 2008 leaving out of Miami

Through discussion and interactive presentation, 2008 conference participants will be able to:

  • Gain increased awareness about the history of Oncology Social Work including challenges that our field has overcome over in the last century.
  • Increased knowledge about current programs (strengths and challenges) throughout our state, region and nationally with a view to improve our own practice.
  • Demonstrate understanding of our future challenges as oncology social workers AND improve our practice/knowledge base today to prepare us for the future.
  • Improve our clinical skills in oncology social work by exploring evolving evidenced-based clinical interventions.

The conference committee is open to questions, ideas and eager volunteers. We are hoping that this conference will be a place for founding members, long-time members and new members to gather together for support, education and celebration!

Thanks Katie! I should have looked at the website before I sent the question out on SWON :) I also did get your message. This is definately something I will consider. Looks like a great way to combine CEU’s and vacationing!

I’m an oncology social worker from Indiana. Am I allowed to come on the cruise? If so, how do I get a flyer or more infomation?
    I’d LOVE to come along!
