Rosy, who works with cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy at Sylvester, was named Social Worker of the Year for 2010 by the Florida Society of Oncology Social Workers. ”It was a really nice surprise,” she says. “I really like working here. I love my job.” Rosy has devoted her career to serving the English- and Spanish-speaking communities in South Florida, assisting patients and their families with everything from counseling to lodging to advance directives. She has worked in oncology social work for more than 15 years, and she is very involved with the American Cancer Society as a recruiter, program spokesperson, and volunteer. Cancer is something that no one expects, so it’s critical for patients to have someone help them navigate the maze of decisions and emotions, and to offer support during this challenging time. Rosy is a beacon of hope and pillar of strength for patients. She approaches her job with [...]

FSOSW net-ucation lesson 1: username, password, posting questions I’ve gotten a few requests on some info that probably should have gone out as part of the original email (hence the title of this email is ‘net-ucation’ because I’m going through a learning curve as well!). Username questions: Your username is the name you used when you signed up for the website. If you forgot your username, contact me and I’ll let you know what it is. Password questions: Your password should have been emailed to you at the address you used when you signed up. If it got lost in cyberspace, contact me and I can get you a new one. If you want to change the password to something easier to remember than the automatically generated gobbledygook, log in to the website: Click ‘profile’ on the left side of the dashboard screen Scroll to the bottom and input your new password. Posting questions: Return to the ‘dashboard’ from the main site by hitting the “site admin” link on the “home” page. To post information, click “add new” under the posts column on the left side of the dashboard. Make sure you select a category for your post to [...]
