Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center (ACCC) and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society have partnered to conduct a monthly support group for: leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma patients and their caregivers.  The professional facilitators from ACCC will be Phil Fusca, MSW, Cancer Care Navigator, and Michelle Zimmerman, RN, Charge Nurse – Med/Surg.

This free group will address specific issues related to a blood cancer diagnosis and will provide an opportunity for attendees to discuss: concerns, anxieties, feelings related to illness & treatment, and other related issues.

March is National Social Work Month.   There will be a Resource meeting Wednesdsay March 11, 2009 from 12n – 1:30pm at Gilda’s Club south Florida, 119 Rose Drive, Ft. The dinner presentation at the Wellness Community–Greater Miami scheduled for Thursday, June 26 is planned to start at 6 PM and end at 7:30 PM.  Peggy Rios, Ph.D., Program Director, will be speaking about the special challenges of this area due to increased longevity with better treatments and the changing paradigm of cancer as a chronic illness.  One CEU will be offered.
